5 Signs It's Time to Replace Your Leaky Faucet

To Fix or To Replace?

A dripping faucet isn't just an annoyance that keeps you up at night; it's literally money down the drain. While many leaky faucets can be saved with a quick cartridge replacement or a new O-ring, sometimes fixing it is just putting a band-aid on a bigger problem.

Here are 5 signs that you should replace your faucet rather than trying to repair it.

1. It Needs Constant Repairs

If you've already had a handyman out to fix the leak, and three months later it's dripping again, the internal mechanisms are likely stripped or severely degraded. Stop paying for repair calls and invest that money into a new, reliable unit.

2. The Finish is Worn or Rusted

If the chrome is flaking off, the brass is tarnished, or you see visible rust around the base, no amount of internal plumbing repair is going to make it look good again. A new faucet instantly upgrades the entire look of your sink.

3. You Have Mineral Buildup

If you live in an area with hard water, mineral deposits (scale) can build up inside the faucet body. While you can clean the aerator, severe internal buildup restricts water flow permanently and destroys the seals.

4. The Handle is Stiff or Grinding

When you turn the faucet on, it should be a smooth motion. If you feel grinding, crunching, or severe resistance, the internal valve is destroyed. Sometimes parts can be sourced, but for older models, a replacement is much more cost-effective.

5. It's Just Outdated

Sometimes, the best reason to replace a faucet is simply because it belongs in 1995. Upgrading to a modern faucet—perhaps one with a pull-down sprayer or a touchless sensor—can dramatically improve the functionality of your kitchen or bathroom.
